Paradox was founded by Erik Poppe, Finn Gjerdrum and Torleif Hauge in 1998. Gjerdrum describes this group as being very talentful and having different skill sets within their departments. Poppe made both feature films and commercials,Torleif had experiences within the commercial world and Gjerdrum worked with feature films. Their past experiences made it very natural for them to come together and start a company which would produce both commercials, and feature films. 

After thirteen years of producing commercials, making almost 500 films, Paradox decided to put its focus towards making feature films. The main importance to Paradox has always been the possibilities of storytelling and the narrative. An important part of storytelling are the characters that live within the story, these are the people who stand at the center with different dilemmas, challenges and questions.

Paradox continues to strive to be better for each new project. In one way or another they are always looking for the highest quality in both people and stories. Paradox thrives in diversity, and wants to tell good stories, whether it is a documentary, childrens movie, or a huge drama production. We act with openness and welcome new ideas. Curiosity and interest are two important elements for the company. They also believe that the talent is not only in front or behind the camera, but also in all the other stages of production. 

Paradox has participated three times at the Berlinale Main Competition with “Utøya 22. juli” / “U – July 22”, (2018) directed by Erik Poppe, “Kraftidioten” / “In Order of Disappearance” (2014), starring Bruno Ganz and Stellan Skarsgård, directed by Hans Petter Moland, and also with “En ganske Snill Mann” / “A Somewhat gentle Man” (2011), directed by Hans Petter Moland, starring Stellan Skarsgård. Erik Poppe’s film “Kongens Nei” / “The King ́s Choice” participated in the Panorama section at the Berlinale.
